My suburb is very dense and it seems everyone is adding their own router (in suites and carriage homes) and maybe a booster too. The area has become extreeeemely noisy. It's not as bad as an apartment block, but it's close. [Or somehow hardware can degrade and cause worse wifi performance? I don't believe so..]
